Thief Pays For Hammer Years Later

(Johnstown, PA) -- A hardware store in Western Pennsylvania has been paid back by a crook with a guilty conscience. The Central Contractors Supply Company in Johnstown received a letter recently with a note and some cash. The unsigned document said the money was re-payment for a hammer stolen from the place a long time ago. The writer said, "I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway. Enclosed is 45 dollars to cover the hammer plus interest." Lynne Gramling is part owner of the family operated business and says the money was far more than a hammer would cost. She took the money to a nearby shopping mall and dropped the money in a Salvation Army kettle.
