(Undated) -- Mel Tillis' latest CD might not be climbing the Billboard Country Albums chart, but he isn't complaining. His latest release, "You Ain't Gonna Believe This," is still in the top ten on the publication's Comedy Albums list. The disc has been on the chart for eleven weeks, and is currently perched at number nine. Tillis tells CMT.com, quote, "I've had a wonderful career. I've been blessed in every way you can." "You Ain't Gonna Believe This" is the first comedy album from Tillis, who got his start as a recording artist more than 50 years ago. The album's material was culled over the years from his between-song banter during his concerts.
Tillis notes he found an outlet for the project through Toby Keith. He explains that he met with Keith during a tour stop in Norman, Oklahoma, and gave him a copy of the demo. Tillis recalls, quote, "He took it home. The next thing I knew, he said, 'Hell, I want you on Show Dog.' That's how it happened." Now Tillis is finding his work ranked alongside such comic stars as Dane Cook, Weird Al Yankovic, and Larry the Cable Guy.
