Jamey Johnson Earns Gold Record For "The Guitar Song"

Jamey Johnson's latest release has gone Gold. The singer-songwriter's two-disc set "The Guitar Song," which hit stores in September, has sold 500-thousand copies in the U.S. to earn the distinction. Johnson says his latest achievement is just gravy. He explains, quote, "My dream already came true. All I ever wanted was just to get to ride around and sing country music. It's cool when things like that happen along the way. Because those are the things I never thought I could achieve." Johnson adds, quote, "Whether or not it's gold or platinum or hell, diamond for that matter, it wouldn't surprise me anymore. I'll just keep doing what I do. I wake up every day and go play some more country music and have another drink." Sales of "The Guitar Song" would have to double for the album to go Platinum, which signifies one-million copies sold in the U.S. A Diamond-certified album has U.S. sales topping the ten-million mark.

In addition to the sales milestone, Johnson has also earned two GRAMMY nominations in connection with "The Guitar Song." The CD is in the running for Best Country Album, and the song "Macon" is up for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. Johnson also has a third nomination. He's a contender for Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for his contribution to Dierks Bentley's "Bad Angel." Miranda Lambert is also featured on the song. The 53rd annual GRAMMY Awards will be presented in a ceremony airing on CBS on February 13th.
