The wife of Montgomery Gentry's Eddie Montgomery is denying accusations that she's leaving the country singer because he was recently diagnosed with cancer. Tracy Montgomery addressed the matter Thursday in a statement to Lexington, Kentucky TV station LEX 18, saying, quote, "Despite what is being said, Eddie's cancer had absolutely nothing to do with my decision. It's what the public doesn't know that finalized an extremely difficult decision that I was forced to make." She adds, quote, "I'd like to thank everyone for their kind words and support during this most traumatic time in our lives. For the sake of my children, I prefer to handle things from here on out in a private manner."
On Wednesday Eddie Montgomery announced via Twitter that Tracy had filed for divorce. In his tweet he implied that his wife was leaving him because she couldn't deal with his illness. A rep for the country star has confirmed that the couple, who has been together for more than 20 years, is splitting up.
