Aretha Franklin Surgery Called "Highly Successful"

Aretha Franklin is on the mend following what she describes as a "highly successful" surgery on Thursday. The 68-year-old "Queen Of Soul" issued a statement following her procedure, but offered no further details as to why she sought surgical treatment. The singing legend said, quote, "I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country." "The Detroit Free Press" cites Franklin's cousin, Brenda Corbett, as saying that the music star was resting and in "good spirits" by Thursday afternoon. Reports of the Grammy-winner's surgery surfaced when Detroit Councilwoman JoAnn Watson confirmed that she had organized a prayer vigil for Franklin. Watson's vigil took place on Wednesday evening with the singer's blessing.

It was just last month that Franklin told the world that she was canceling all of her concerts through next May on doctor's orders. This summer, Aretha suffered a fall that resulted in a rib injury and additional canceled appearances.
