Thermostat Fight Leads To Charges

(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines, Iowa teenager was arrested after getting into a fight with his mother and his mother's boyfriend over the thermostat in the family's house. The teen turned up the heat to 72 degrees from 68 early Monday morning, which started a fight. The mom and her boyfriend told police the teen ran into the kitchen to find a knife, threatening to stab them. When he didn't find anything sharp, he grabbed a hammer and allegedly started to swing it at the couple. The 17-year-old was arrested without incident, and his mother told police she's afraid of him and does not want him to come home.
