THANKSGIVING TRAVEL UP THIS YEAR
More Americans are expected to be hitting the road for Thanksgiving this year. Triple-A anticipates that 42-point-two-million people will be traveling at least 50 miles away from home over the holiday travel period, which begins Wednesday and ends Sunday. This number is up more than eleven-percent over last year, and shows a significant rebound following 2008's drop in Thanksgiving travel of more than 25-percent. An overwhelming majority of people will be driving, with 94-percent getting to their Thanksgiving dinner by car. While those waiting in lines at the airport might not believe it, only four-percent of travelers are flying to their destinations. Just two-percent will be riding the rails, taking a bus, or going by boat. More than 80-percent of those heading out for Thanksgiving are leaving home to spend the holiday with family or friends.
