Man Claims Bomb Threat Was Just A Joke

No one was laughing at a Florida man's recent attempt at humor. The "St. Petersburg Times" is reporting that John Mitchell Doherty is accused of calling in a bomb threat to the National Aviation Academy last Thursday. Authorities wound up evacuating the school and a nearby Bally's Fitness as they searched the area for explosives. Investigators were eventually able to trace the origins of Doherty's phone call and arrested him on Friday. The 32-year-old subsequently told Pinellas County deputies that was just trying to make a joke. He now faces two counts of making a false report of a bomb.
