Man Believed Dead Wakes Up
(West Burlington, IA) -- An 84-year-old man who was believed to be brain dead woke up and started talking to his family recently in West Burlington, Iowa. The Burlington "Hawk Eye" reports Gene Stotts' family had started to discuss funeral arrangements after he underwent surgery for an aortic aneurysm. He had been kept sedated for days by doctors and awoke after life support systems were removed. Stotts told his daughters his late wife, who had died nearly two decades ago, was in the room watching over him. His family said late last week Stotts was doing well after a second surgery to close a hole opened to fix the aneurysm.
