Gloria Stuart, the veteran actress best remembered for playing the elder version of Kate Winslet's character Rose in "Titanic," has died. Stuart's daughter, Sylvia Thompson, told the "Washington Post" that the actress died Sunday at her West Los Angeles home. She was 100 years old. Thompson said Stuart was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago. Funeral arrangements are pending. As a young actress, Stuart appeared in a series of films in the 1930s, including "The Invisible Man," "The Kiss Before the Mirror" and "The Prisoner of Shark Island." She also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies in the 1970s and made guest appearances on series such as "The Waltons and "Murder She Wrote."Stuart earned an Oscar nomination for playing the elderly survivor of the doomed ship in James Cameron's 1997 blockbuster "Titanic." Upon earning the nomination, she became the oldest actress ever to be nominated for an Oscar. The award would go to Kim Basinger for "L.A. Confidential" that year.
