Tinker Bell Star Unveiled On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Disney fairy Tinker Bell is now among the legions of film and television stars shining brightly on Hollywood's famed celebrity sidewalk. The cartoon character received the two thousandth-418th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Tuesday in celebration of her iconic status and her new movie "Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue," now on DVD. Tinker Bell's star was unveiled near the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. The ceremony featured confetti cannons in lieu of fairy dust. Tinker Bell made her debut as a flying beam of light in the 1904 play "Peter and Wendy." She would ascend to cartoon icon after animator Marc Davis gave her a feminine image makeover for the 1953 animated film "Peter Pan." Tinker Bell now flies over Disneyland every night in the summer to ring in the evening fireworks.

"Tink" joins a growing list of cartoon and puppet characters with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The list also includes Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Big Bird, Bugs Bunny, The Simpsons, Winnie-the-Pooh, Shrek, Snow White, Kermit the Frog, Rugrats, Woody Woodpecker and Godzilla.
