New Smits Starrer Helps NBC To Top Of Ratings Heap

Jimmy Smits' return to the small screen is paying off big, so far, for NBC. The network's new courtroom drama "Outlaw," starring Smits as an ex-Supreme Court justice looking out for "the little guy," was the most-watched scripted program last week, according to new figures from Nielsen Media Research. "Outlaw" averaged ten-point-seven million viewers last Wednesday to help NBC to a second consecutive first-place finish in the weekly primetime TV ratings. Its lead-in -- the two-hour season finale of "America's Got Talent" -- averaged more than 16 million viewers to become the week's most-watched entertainment program and the third-most watched program overall, behind "Sunday Night Football" which drew more than 23-million viewers.

NBC was the week's most-watched network averaging, almost nine-million viewers for primetime programming. CBS was second with just under eight million viewers, followed by ABC which averaged five-point-two-million viewers. Fox finished in fourth place with just under four-million viewers.
