LABOR DAY WEEKEND TRAVEL UP THIS YEAR
More Americans are expected to travel over this Labor Day weekend compared to last year's holiday. A Triple-A poll is showing an increase of nearly ten-percent in holiday travel this year, with nearly 34-point-five-million people planning to roam at least 50 miles from their home. By comparison, just over 31-million-people ventured out for Labor Day last year. Most travelers intend to hit the road, with 91-percent saying they'll drive to their destination over the long weekend. Just five-percent will be flying, while four-percent will be taking some other form of transportation, such as train, bus, or boat. Nearly 65-percent say while they're away their primary activity will be dining, while 47-percent will be spending time shopping and 43-percent will be visiting friends or family. Labor Day this year is on Monday, September 6th. The 2010 Labor Day holiday travel period is defined as Thursday, September 2nd to Monday, September 6th.
