Low-Riding Pants Land Louisiana Woman In Jail

Inappropriate attire helped land one Louisiana woman in jail last week. The "Times-Picayune" is reporting that Kimberly Senette was sentenced to ten days behind bars for wearing low-riding jeans to court. The 23-year-old was in a Jefferson Parish court last Thursday to urge her brother -- who was charged with armed robbery and battery -- to accept a plea deal. Unfortunately for Senette, the judge decided to hold her for contempt of court when, according to one witness, her jeans revealed her underwear and "a bit more." To make matters worse, Senette was forced to watch as her sibling was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Ostrich Escapes Onto The Road In China

A pet ostrich recently caused a disturbance on local roads in China. The "Sichuan News Online" is reporting that a man identified as Liu was feeding the bird when he escaped and ran onto a nearby street. Liu was forced to chase the animal on his motorbike until fellow motorists were able to help him corral the ostrich at a gas station. Liu says he will be much more careful with his pet ostrich in the future, adding, quote, "The first thing I'm going to do is build a big fence around the ostrich pen."

Man Arrested For Assault After Losing Arm Wrestling Match

Arm wrestling is apparently a very serious matter for one Florida man. TCPalm.com is reporting that Erick Lee Blanton was arrested Sunday morning after he lost an arm wrestling match. The 25-year-old Fort Pierce resident reportedly became angry after the competition, then tried to run over a group of bystanders with his truck. Blanton is also accused of putting the barrel of a rifle against the head of his opponent. He is now facing four counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bride-To-Be Gets DUI Hours Before Wedding

A Washington woman's wedding day got off to a rough start. According to the "Seattle Times," the 31-year-old Bellevue resident was pulled over Sunday morning on her way home from her bachelorette party and cited for DUI. Washington State Patrol says the woman was driving more than 90 miles-per-hour on Interstate 405 when she was stopped. It was subsequently discovered that the bride-to-be had a blood-alcohol-content of point-one-four-six. The woman was eventually released to a taxi so she could get to her wedding.

STUDENTS SHARE HOPES, FEARS ABOUT NEW SCHOOL YEAR

Most teens and older tweens see the new school year as a new beginning. According to a poll by C&R Research's YouthBeat, 80-percent of kids age eleven to 17 say they're looking forward to making a "fresh start" at school. Nearly three-quarters of tweens and 69-percent of teens say they're also excited about seeing old friends again. But the start of school also sparks some anxiety. Homework is the top concern for 54-percent, while 34-percent are worried about having less free time. Just over 20-percent are anxious about how they'll fit in with the other kids. Seventeen-percent are worried their classmates will gossip about them and 15-percent are afraid of being bullied. But very few students are concerned about violence in general. Only five-percent say they fear a serious incident -- such as a shooting -- happening at their school.

Nichols Woman Jailed For Allowing Kid To Drive Van

(Iowa City, IA) -- A 21-year-old woman in Iowa was placed in a jail cell for allegedly putting a 12-year-old behind the wheel of a van. Melissa Garcia, who is seven months pregnant, is accused of letting the child drive her and her three children in Iowa City on Saturday. KCRG-TV reports after the child was weaving and nearly lost control, Garcia took over driving before being stopped by police. The van's owner said Garcia did not have permission to drive the vehicle, nor did the child. Police also say her three children, aged one, two and three, were not properly restrained in the vehicle.

Man Facing Bigamy Charges May Have Up To Four Wives

(Louisville, KY) -- A 53-year-old man behind bars in Kentucky may be married to as many as four women. James House has been charged with bigamy by an Oldham County grand jury. Court papers indicate that House married Christina Settle in Louisville in April of 2008. A week later, House married Lisa Ross in La Grange. WLKY-TV reports that they've spoken to a woman who says she was married to House when he wed Settle and Ross, and that there's an additional wife lurking in the weeds. In addition to bigamy, House faces several other charges, including knowingly exploiting an adult, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and theft.

Pine Cone Toss Gets Man Tossed In Jail

(Anthony, NM) -- An Anthony, New Mexico, man was thrown in jail after he allegedly chucking a pine cone at a sheriff's deputy. Authorities with the Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department say 22-year-old Pedro Gonzalez was drunk over the weekend when he threw an eight-inch pine cone at an officer's head after pepper spray was used to subdue the suspect. Police had responded to a call that Gonzalez was intoxicated and had attempted to get inside his mother's house when the incident took place. Gonzalez was arrested and charged with battery of a police officer.
