Buck Owens Honored In Bakersfield

The late Buck Owen is being honored along the streets of Bakersfield. California's Bakersfield.com says the country legend received a marker last week on the Fox Theater's Walk of Stars. Owens' sons Michael and Johnny and Buck's nephew Mel were among those who represented the family at the star's unveiling. Michael Owens noted the recognition would have made his father proud. In a nod to Buck's 1988 collaborative hit with Dwight Yoakam, he added, quote, "Instead of the streets of Bakersfield, it's more like the sidewalks of Bakersfield." Mel also speculated that his uncle would have been pleased with the honor, saying, quote, "Buck is up there saying, 'All right. I finally got it.'" Darryl Worley also attended the ceremony. He later headlined the annual Buck's Birthday Bash at Owens' Bakersfield venue the Crystal Palace.

The Walk of Fame star unveiling took place on the eve of what would have been Owens' 81st birthday. The Texas-born Country Music Hall of Famer passed away in Bakersfield, California in March 2006.
