Jimmy Wayne is nearly halfway through his Meet Me Halfway walk. The country star has been hoofing it halfway across America -- from Nashville to Phoenix -- in an effort to raise money and awareness for homeless teens and young adults. The singer says his trek has been, quote, "a rewarding and gratifying journey so far." He explains, quote, "The people I have met along the back roads of America, as well as those in the bigger cities I have walked through have all been hospitable, and curious about why I'm walking." Wayne notes it's given him opportunities to explain the issues, and, quote, "telling the story gives people information they need to get involved and help these kids." Wayne is expected to reach the halfway mark -- Amarillo, Texas -- on Saturday. At that point he'll have been on the road for 93 days, and walked roughly 977 miles. An event is slated to take place at Hastings Record Store in Amarillo when he arrives to celebrate his accomplishments so far.Wayne's walk hasn't progressed quite as quickly as he initially anticipated. Extreme weather conditions caused some delays. And as interest and attention grows for the Meet Me Halfway campaign, Wayne has had days in which he's spent more time delivering his message and a little less time on the road. However, when he left Nashville on New Year's Day, he thought he was going to make it to Phoenix before the end of March.
