Former "Family Ties" Actor Pleads Guilty To Assault

Former child actor Brian Bonsall is pleading guilty to assault and probation violation. Bonsall, best known for playing Michael J. Fox's little brother Andy Keaton on the 1980s sitcom "Family Ties," was sentenced to two years of probation after entering his plea in a Boulder, Colorado courtroom Thursday. According to the DailyCamera.com, the 28-year-old pled guilty to felony menacing and third degree assault in connection to a 2009 incident in which he assaulted his best friend. He also pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his probation stemming from a 2007 case in which he assaulted his girlfriend. Bonsall was also sentenced to 40 hours community service and five days in Boulder County Jail's work-release program.

Bonsall's attorney told the court that her client has significant substance abuse issues and asked that he be allowed to participate in the county's "integrated treatment court." The program focuses on rehabilitation instead of jail time. A judge is expected to rule on the request next week.
