Charlie Daniels Angry, Worried About Passage Of Health Care Bill

Charlie Daniels isn't pleased that Congress passed the health care legislation. In a lengthy post on his blog website "Soapbox," the singer calls Monday, quote, "the day the Democratic controlled congress sold out the American people, voting in a health care bill that a majority of the American people have said over and over they didn't want." In an entry titled "Black Monday," he shares his belief that the passage of the health care reform legislation marks the end of a representative government in the U.S. Daniels states, quote, "We essentially have a dictatorship that is willing to force their will on us regardless of what we want. This is the most despicable act ever perpetrated on the American public by the most dishonorable congress we've ever had."

While Daniels notes, quote, "I have always had unfailing faith in the American ability to persevere; to bounce back and overcome almost anything," he shares his dire predictions that, quote, "this health care bill will change America into something that will resemble a police state" and that, quote, "America is on it's way to becoming the largest banana republic on earth." Daniels adds his concerns that the new health care bill will lead to higher unemployment, a greater national debt, increased government intervention into people's lives, and other problems for the country.

The 73-year-old performer suffered a mild stroke while snowmobiling in Colorado in January. Daniels was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango and later airlifted to Swedish Medical Center in Denver for further evaluation. He later credited his unwavering faith in God for pulling him through his health crisis saying "everything worked like clockwork" when it came to getting him the help he needed.
