vShania Twain Carries Olympic Torch Through Canadian Hometown

Shania Twain is part of Olympic history. The singer was among the torch bearers as the flame heads westward across Canada to Vancouver, British Columbia for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The country star was part of the relay, and took the flame through her hometown of Timmins, Ontario on January 1st. People.com says the frigid temperature -- with a wind chill that hit 30-degrees below zero -- didn't keep fans away. More than a thousand people came out to Timmins' Hollinger Park to see Twain light the ceremonial cauldron.

Before Friday's ceremony, Twain noted, quote, "There is a lot of excitement surrounding the voyage of the Olympic flame as it makes its way through our beautiful country," and said she was, quote, "proud to be a small part of the flame's journey to its final destination at the games in Vancouver." Shania added that she, quote, "will never forget this honor and cherish the privilege" of being a representative of her homeland and carrying the Olympic flame.
