"Avatar" On Top Of Box Office For Fourth Straight Week
"Avatar" is turning into one of the biggest films of all time. The James Cameron feature earned 48-point-five-million dollars this weekend throughout North America, winning the top spot for a fourth straight week. To date, the sci-fi fantasy has earned 429-million dollars in North America and one-point-three-billion dollars worldwide. Following the "Avatar" juggernaut in second place was "Sherlock Holmes" starring Robert Downey, Jr. The Guy Ritchie-directed film scored 16-point-six million dollars. At third, with sixteen-point-three-million dollars was the family film "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel." "Daybreakers," the vampire horror film starring Sam Neill and Ethan Hawke debuted in its first week of release at number four, pulling in 15-million dollars. Rounding out the top five was "It's Complicated," written and directed by Nancy Meyers and starring Meryl Streep. Other debuts in the top ten this week were the Amy Adams starrer "Leap Year" in sixth and "Youth In Revolt," which was ninth.
