NBC is confirming one of the worst kept secrets of the new year - Jay Leno is heading back to late nights. After much back and forth about the future of the comedian's flagging primetime series last week, the network announced on Sunday that it was negotiating late night time slots among its three talk show hosts - Leno, Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon. According to CNN, NBC executive Jeff Gaspin said the new plan is for Leno to take over a shortened version of "The Tonight Show" with O'Brien moving back to his old "Late Night" hosting gig at midnight, and Fallon hosting a new show at 1:00 am. Gaspin added that as of Sunday, nothing was a done deal.Leno's primetime show is expected to go off the air on February 12th when the 2010 Winter Olympics begin. Gaspin says "The Jay Leno Show," which debuted in September, quote, "didn't meet affiliates' needs." The show launched just three months after Leno ended his 17-year run as host of "The Tonight Show." O'Brien has been hosting "The Tonight Show" since last June.
