"American Idol" Premiere Wins Big Ratings For Fox

The season nine premiere of "American Idol" is a big winner for the Fox network this week. According to Nielsen's Fast National Ratings, 29-point-eight-million-people tuned in to watch the first night of "Idol's" two-night season premiere Tuesday. That's slightly less than last year's season eight premiere which drew 30-point-four-million-viewers, but enough for Fox to win the night. CBS came in second place with an average of 16-point-seven-million viewers on the strength of "NCIS," "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "The Good Wife." NBC finished third overall with an average of seven-point-five-million viewers, followed by ABC in fourth place with three-point-one-million viewers. The rerun lineup on the CW network finished in fifth place with an audience of just 729-thousand viewers.
