Popular "Greeter Dog" Loses Job

A Florida "greeter dog" at a neighborhood convenience store is now out of a job. "St. Petersburg Times" reports that "Cody," a chocolate Labrador who greeted customers at the Clearwater BP gas station for months was apparently dismissed from his duties due to health concerns. On Thursday morning, a state health inspector put the kibosh on Cody's career in the convenience store business. Clearwater BP was issued a warning that the Florida Department of Agriculture would declare all of the store's food products - mostly sodas and candy bars - unfit for consumption with the canine employee on the premises.

Sadly, the action followed an article - also in "The St. Petersburg Times" - about the jovial dog's presence at the store. The human interest piece inspired at least one reader to say, quote, "Now I have two reasons to go to Florida again. One, to see my friends and their sons. Two, to see Cody."
