Library Patron Returns Book Taken Out In 1949, Feels Guilty
A patron of a Toledo, Ohio library shook off some long-standing guilt this week. ToledoBlade.com reports that a Beverly Hills man who grew up in Ohio has returned a book that he originally took from a Toledo library in 1949. The unnamed man - now in his seventies -- pulled a 707-page volume about Napoleon Bonaparte from his local library for a research project as a teenager. In a rush, he never actually checked out the book and then never returned it. Six decades later, the patron has made things right, sending the library a package by mail with the Bonaparte book and a letter of explanation. The patron signed his letter, quote, "Sorry, An Ex-Toledoan." Upon its return, the item was 21-thousand-900 days overdue.
