Gloriana Share Their Surprise At AMA Win

Country newcomers Gloriana say getting the nod for Breakthrough Artist at the 2009 American Music Awards was a huge surprise. The group's Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball note they definitely felt like the underdog in the category, and were certain the award was going to go to the Pop/Rock nominee. Along with Gloriana and Lady GaGa, the other hopefuls for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist award included R&B/Soul contender Keri Hilson and Rap/Hip-Hop representative Kid Cudi. Gloriana, best known for the hit "Wild At Heart," admit they got a big boost this year as an opener on Taylor Swift's tour. Swift has been taking the music world by storm this year. She was the big winner earlier this month at the Country Music Association Awards, and also had a big night at the AMAs. She took five of the six categories in which she was nominated, including the top prize of Artist of the Year.

The 2009 American Music Awards were presented in a ceremony at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and aired on ABC Sunday night.
