Ebenezer Scrooge Takes The Weekend Box Office In "A Christmas Carol"

Ebenezer Scrooge took all this weekend as "Disney's A Christmas Carol" won the top spot at the North American box office with 31-million-dollars. The Robert Zemeckis-directed film features 3-D live-capture technology and superstar Jim Carrey in multiple voice roles. Behind Scrooge and company was the Michael Jackson documentary "This Is It," earning an additional 14-million dollars, but falling from its number one spot in its second weekend out in theaters. At number three was "The Men Who Stare At Goats." The new George Clooney comedy about U.S. special ops who use psychic powers to battle war pulled in 13-point-three-million dollars. "The Fourth Kind" -- a thriller about alien abductions -- was at number four with 12-point-five-million dollars. Another thrillfest -- Paramount's low budget "Paranormal Activity" -- rounded out the top five with eight-point-six-million dollars. This brings "Paranormal" -- which had a 15-thousand-dollar production budget -- up to 97-point-four-million dollars in box office receipts.
