Actress Betty Garrett Dies In Los Angeles At 91

Veteran actress Betty Garrett has died in Los Angeles at the age of 91. Garrett was best-known for roles on two '70s sitcoms -- "All in the Family," where she played Archie Bunker's liberal neighbor Irene Lorenzo, and "Laverne and Shirley," in which she played landlady Edna Babish. Garrett also had roles on TV's "Grey's Anatomy," "Boston Public" and "Becker." Garrett's son says she died of an aortic aneurysm.

Garrett began her film career in the late 1940s with MGM, and twice starred opposite Frank Sinatra. In 1951, Garrett's husband, actor Larry Parks, was called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee, where he admitted to a past affiliation with the Communist Party. Parks found himself on the Hollywood blacklist, while Garrett for a time found it difficult to get work. Parks and Garrett were married until his death in 1975.
