A full slate of high-volume, high-intensity movie trailers dominated the high-priced TV advertising on Fox during Super Bowl 45 on Sunday. Big films previewed during the game included possible new-franchises-in-the-making. Among these, was a TV trailer for the super hero flick "Captain America: The First Avenger" starring a buffed-up Chris Evans in the title role. Also showcased on Sunday was an ad for "Thor," complete with a voiceover from Oscar-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins, and glimpses of Oscar-nominee Natalie Portman flirting with Thor himself, played by Chris Hemsworth. Action veteran Harrison Ford appeared in a shoot-em-up TV spot for his scifi film "Cowboys & Aliens." Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde co-star in that upcoming release directed by actor and "Iron Man" filmmaker Jon Favreau.
Existing franchises also offered up looks at their next chapters on Sunday's Super Bowl broadcast. An ad for "Fast Five," a continuation of "The Fast & The Furious" films starring Vin Diesel, got "Big Game" promotion. So too did "Kung Fu Panda 2," "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" -- the fourth "Pirates" film starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. One slight variation to the "action rule" in Sunday's ad lineup was a trailer for "Rango." The animated film about a chameleon with dreams of being a sword-brandishing hero also stars Depp, this time as the voice of Rango the chameleon.
