George Strait Wearing Red For The Troops

George Strait plans to wear his patriotism on his sleeve -- literally. The singer is backing the new initiative Red Shirt Fridays, a nonpolitical effort to encourage Americans to display their support for the troops by wearing a red shirt every Friday. Strait joined the campaign on Christmas Eve, explaining, quote, "The holidays are a time to be with your family and friends and to be thankful, and I can't think of a better gift to the women and men serving our country than to show them how much we appreciate them and are thinking about them." The country star, who is an Army veteran, adds, quote, "It's a small gesture but together it does make a difference, especially for those who can't be here with us."

Strait plans to continue wearing red shirts each Friday throughout the coming year. His upcoming tour with Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack begins in Austin, Texas on Friday, January 14th, and George notes, quote, "We are going to wear red shirts to every Friday's tour date and we encourage the fans to do the same." He adds, quote, "I want to see a building full of red shirts if possible." For more information on Red Shirt Fridays visit www.redshirtfridays.org.
