Dolly Parton is among those slated to receive Lifetime Achievement Awards at the upcoming GRAMMY ceremony. She's in a group that also includes Julie Andrews, The Kingston Trio, and the Ramones, as well as the Juilliard String Quartet, Roy Haynes, and George Beverly Shea. In announcing the recipients, Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow notes, quote, "It is a great honor to recognize and celebrate such a distinguished and dynamic group of honorees who have been the creators of such timeless art." He adds, quote, "These influential performers and brilliant innovators have been of great inspiration to our culture and industry. Their legendary work has left a lasting impression and will continue to influence generations to come." The special GRAMMY winners will be formally recognized at an invitation-only event on February 12th. The 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be presented in a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 13th, airing on CBS at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
While the Lifetime Achievement Award typically allows the Recording Academy to acknowledge the work of influential artists who weren't recognized in their heyday, this isn't the case for Parton. Over the course of her lengthy and successful career she's earned more than 40 GRAMMY nominations, and has seven awards to her credit.
