Couple Being Billed For Party Response
(Needham, MA) -- A New Hampshire couple may have to pay a 15-hundred dollar bill to the police department for overtime costs incurred when officers responded to an underage graduation drinking party. The police department in the town of Weare is billing Jon and Theona Boyd after the incident earlier this year. Officers arrested two people and tried to control 70 young people with Chief Gregory Begin telling the Boston "Herald" the town's residents shouldn't have to pay for the cost. The Boyds are awaiting a decision by a district court judge on whether they will have to pay the bill for the police response to their daughter's St. Paul's boarding school party. The Boyds say they told partygoers it was a no drugs, no alcohol event, but they pleaded no contest last month. Unlike Massachusetts, the "Herald" reports that New Hampshire allows judges to seek payment from offenders for the out-of-pocket expenses caused by a criminal offense.
