Potter Power Lures Millions To Theaters

It's a magical beginning for the end of the "Harry Potter" film franchise. Part one of the two-part Potter film finale, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," entranced millions of moviegoers this weekend. The film, the seventh in the series, racked up an estimated 125-million-dollars at the North American box office and more than 330-million-dollars in global ticket sales. "Deathly Hallows'" 125-million-dollar debut set a new record for the film franchise, beating 2005's opening of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" by more than 22-million-dollars. "Deathly Hallows: Part 1" is now sixth on the list of all-time best weekend openers.

Coming in a distant second at this weekend's box office is former champ "Megamind" with 16-point-two-million-dollars, followed by "Unstoppable" at number three with 13-point-one-million-dollars in box office receipts. "Due Date" was fourth with nine-point-two-million-dollars in ticket sales and the new Russell Crowe drama "The Next Three Days" opened in fifth place with six-point-eight-million.
