Denis Leary Talks About The End Of "Rescue Me"

Denis Leary is talking about the end of his FX series, "Rescue Me." "TV Guide" has confirmed that the firefighter show will conclude its seven season run with a finale scheduled to air around September 11th, 2011. While appearing as a guest on HLN's "Joy Behar Show" on Tuesday, Leary said that it's time to start wrapping things up on "Rescue Me," citing the fact that 2011 will mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. "Rescue Me" revolves around a fictional group of New York City firefighters, many of whom experience ongoing trauma connected to the tragedy. Leary's character Tommy Gavin has been depicted on the series experiencing visions of a late cousin who perished on that tragic date in history.

"Rescue Me" premiered on FX in 2004. The show has earned four Emmy nominations and one win since its debut. Leary's been nominated twice in the category for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The show's one Emmy win went to Michael J. Fox in 2009 for his guest appearance on the episode titled "Sheila."
