Darius Rucker is being honored in his home state. The singer and his pop band Hootie and the Blowfish are being saluted with a new statue going up in Columbia, South Carolina next month. South Carolina's "The State" notes the stainless steel and black granite structure is roughly 20 feet long, ten-feet wide, and at least 12-feet tall, and will have a permanent home at Santee Avenue and Harden Street in Columbia's Five Points neighborhood. In addition, a portion of Santee Avenue is getting the honorary alternate name of Hootie Boulevard. Rucker is expected to be on hand for the unveiling. He'll join other Hootie and the Blowfish members Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim "Soni" Sonefeld for the special ceremony on October 21st.The event will follow the release of Rucker's second country album, "Charleston, SC 1996." The CD, which includes the singer's current hit "Come Back Song," will hit stores on October 12th. In addition, Rucker will be performing in Columbia just a few days after the statue's unveiling. He'll entertain at the South Carolina State Fair on October 24th.
