CNN Announces Piers Morgan Will Take Over For Larry King

CNN veteran Larry King is passing the torch of his primetime show to "America's Got Talent" judge Piers Morgan in January. The cable network says the NBC talent judge will take over "Larry King Live" with a "candid, in-depth newsmaker interview program." The new Morgan show doesn't have a name yet, but will air at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. King has hosted CNN's "Larry King Live" since 1985. Morgan says, quote, "I have watched 'Larry King Live' for much of the last 25 years, and dreamed of one day filling the legendary suspenders of the man I consider to be the greatest interviewer of them all." While the "America's Got Talent" judge is known for being a TV personality, he got his start in print journalism in the UK as a reporter for the "Wimbledon News." He became the youngest reporter ever at Rupert Murdoch's "News of the World" in 1994 at age 28. But he moved on the following year to work as the editor-in-chief of the "Daily Mirror." Morgan made the jump to television by hosting interview shows on the BBC and ITV. Former "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell helped him make the transition to talent judge when he hired him to work on "Britain's Got Talent."

In addition to his new role at CNN, Morgan will continue to write his regular columns for the "Mail On Sunday" newspaper. He will also write for CNN.com. He will be based out of New York, but will also divide his time between London and Los Angeles.
