Zac Brown Band Attains Rare Chart Feat
The Zac Brown Band is following in Brooks & Dunn's footsteps. The group is celebrating their fourth chart-topping hit, as "Free" is reaching the peak position on the Billboard Country Songs chart this week. Billboard.com says the accomplishment makes the Zac Brown Band the first group to log four number one hits from their first major label release since Brooks & Dunn, who saw four singles from their 1991 debut "Brand New Man" hit the top of the chart nearly 20 years ago. The Zac Brown Band began their string of number ones with "Chicken Fried," their first single from "The Foundation," which spent two weeks at the top of the chart back in December 2008. In November of last year "Toes" became the group's second chart-topper, and "Highway 20 Ride" reached number one back in April. The band's only single to not go to number one is "Whatever It Is," which peaked at number two in July 2009.
Brooks & Dunn and Clint Black are the only other artists to achieve the feat since Billboard began using Nielsen BDS data. They marked their accomplishments with their first four singles. Between September 1991 and August 1992, Brooks & Dunn's "Brand New Man," "My Next Broken Heart," "Neon Moon," and "Boot Scootin' Boogie" each topped the Billboard country singles chart. Clint Black's debut, "Better Man," went to number one in June 1989, followed by "Killin' Time" in October 1989, "Nobody's Home" in January 1990, and "Walkin' Away" in May 1990.
