Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson Accept Music Honor

Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson are sharing their gratitude for their latest honor. The country legends are this year's recipients of Leadership Music's Dale Franklin Award. CMT.com notes both stars were on hand for the ceremony, which included tributes and musical salutes. In accepting his award, Nelson drew laughs as he said, quote, "I want to thank all of my friends, and all the people in this town, that made it possible to be standing here, getting all these nice things said about me. I almost gave myself a standing ovation. I held back, though." He added that he appreciated the "wonderful, wonderful evening." Kristofferson admitted he was very moved by the event, and wasn't sure how to respond. He explained, quote, "I forgot everything I wanted to say before I got up here, and I can't remember anymore. My memory's gone bad, but I'm so honored to be up here with Fred Foster and Willie Nelson. I can't tell you what it means to me." With the event Nelson and Kristofferson joined Monument Records executive Fred Foster in being recognized as trailblazers in country music. Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Jamey Johnson, Randy Travis, Lorrie Morgan, Brenda Lee, and Lyle Lovett were among those who took part in the event, while Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance. The Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award gala was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville Sunday night.
