Jimmy Wayne is finally returning home. The country star is expected to head back to Nashville Monday after completing a seven-month, 17-hundred mile walk to Phoenix over the weekend. Wayne embarked on his journey back in January to launch his "Meet Me Halfway" campaign to help homeless teens and young adults -- particularly those who are associated with the foster care system. Wayne literally hobbled into Phoenix Saturday afternoon. He says he injured his foot last Monday walking down a steep highway in the White Mountains of Arizona, and by Saturday -- with just five more miles to go -- knew he couldn't take another step. After receiving medical treatment, he learned that he'd trekked more than 40 miles on a broken foot. He completed the trip in a walking cast.Wayne played a free concert in Mesa Saturday night to celebrate his arrival. During the show he shared stories from the road as well as from his past as a kid in the foster care system, noting his walk brought up memories that fueled his determination to help children who are in similar situations now. He also expressed his gratitude to the many sponsors and supporters he picked up along the way. Wayne officially ended his walk Sunday morning, limping onto the grounds of HomeBase Youth Services in central Phoenix. The singer says his goal with his walk was to raise awareness for at risk youth and motivate others to lend a hand. While he admits he's been on an extraordinary journey, Wayne notes he doesn't want his walk to be what stays prominent in people's minds. He says he hopes people will focus on his reasons behind his walk, not the walk itself.
