Flight Attendant Allegedly Loses Cool At JFK

A JetBlue flight attendant is facing criminal charges after losing his cool with a passenger this week. WallStreetJournal.com reports that Steven Slater strayed from the employee handbook when dealing with a traveler who hit him in the head with a piece of luggage. The alleged incident took place upon landing in New York's JFK airport on Monday. When Slater demanded an apology, the passenger refused. Upon hearing this, the 38-year-old JetBlue employee allegedly screamed an obscenity into the jet's PA system. Slater then reportedly made a dramatic exit by inflating the aircraft's emergency slide, grabbing two beers from the plane's bar, and sliding to temporary freedom. Authorities eventually caught up with Slater at his home in Belle Harbor, Queens later in the day. He's since been charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.

A rep for JetBlue -- meanwhile -- has asserted that, quote, "at no time was the security or safety of our customers or crewmembers at risk." The FAA is currently investigating the alleged flight attendant "freakout."
