Alan Jackson To Be Honored By ASCAP

Alan Jackson is being recognized for his composition skills. He's been tapped to receive the Founders Award at the upcoming ASCAP Country Music Awards. The prize is one of the performing rights organization's highest honors. ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams says Jackson has earned the award, noting, quote, "Alan is one of the most prolific and influential artists in country music. He has consistently topped the charts without compromising his artistry, style and love of tradition, captivating millions with songs that are honest, heartfelt and entertaining. He's a genuine superstar, and we are very proud to honor him with ASCAP's Founders Award." ASCAP Nashville's Tim DuBois adds, quote, "Alan upholds the songwriting legacy of country music's greatest icons. The fact that he's been celebrating chart-topping hits for 20 years is a testament to his ability to speak directly to his audience." ASCAP's 48th annual Country Music Awards will take place in Nashville on September 14th.

Since the release of his 1990 major label debut, "Here in the Real World," Jackson has released 15 studio albums and 58 singles. Only nine of his singles didn't hit the top ten on the chart, while 25 went to number one. Some of his self-penned chart-toppers include "Don't Rock the Jukebox," "Chattahoochie," "Where I Come From," "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," "Remember When," and "Country Boy." Previous Founders Award winners include Garth Brooks and Emmylou Harris, as well as Neil Young, Paul McCartney, James Taylor, and Stevie Wonder.
