World's Only Known Eight-Track Tape Museum Open in Texas

As far as James Burnett knows, his museum in Denton, Texas, is the only one anywhere dedicated to eight-track tapes. Burnett owns more than three-thousand of the long-obsolete plastic-cased recordings that provided an alternative to the car radio from the mid-60s until they were phased out in favor of the then-new technology of rewindable cassettes. A portion of Burnett's collection is now kept in a temporary museum in the "Denton Record-Chronicle" building. The museum opened Friday in tandem with Denton's North-By-35 music festival. Burnett's trove includes recordings of Elvis, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk Railroad.
