Jay Leno Resumes "Tonight Show" Duties Tonight
Jay Leno is back at the helm on "The Tonight Show" tonight. Less than a year after leaving the job, the TV funnyman resumes his hosting duties on the late night talk show that made him a household name for 17 years. Leno's "Tonight Show" return follows a controversial NBC programming shuffle that ended Conan O'Brien's turn in the coveted host position after just seven months. The move drew much criticism from fans with late night viewers taking sides in the "Team Leno-Team Conan" debate. NBC executives defended their decision to return Leno to his old late night time slot citing his proven record as a ratings magnet. The point was called into question, however, with the poor showing of Leno's short-lived primetime series, "The Jay Leno Show," which ended quietly on February 9th after just five months on the air.
Tonight, Leno returns to "Tonight" with celebrity guests and outgoing bandleader Kevin Eubanks who is easing his way out of the show to pursue other interests. Leno's scheduled guests on his first night back include Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, and country crooner Brad Paisley.
