Gretchen Wilson, Others Supporting Troops Through Yellow Ribbon Program

Gretchen Wilson isn't just supporting the troops -- she's supporting their education as well. "Country Weekly" says the country singer was among those who took part in a special concert salute to the men and women in uniform Tuesday night in Nashville. The event was a fundraiser for Lipscomb University's Yellow Ribbon program, which supplements the G.I. Bill and provides military veterans financial assistance to pursue a degree at the school. During the show Wilson remarked about her own efforts to continue her education and her belief in the program, noting, quote, "In 2007 I went back to school to get my GED, to set an example for my daughter. In May 2008, I earned the GED and have since met so many people who are passionate about education. The Yellow Ribbon program ensures the education of the Americans who have protected us."

Other country stars who performed at the benefit included Charlie Daniels, Amy Grant, and Brooks & Dunn's Kix Brooks, while Larry Gatlin served as the emcee.
