Charlie Sheen Pleads Not Guilty, Trial Date Set For July

Charlie Sheen is pleading not guilty to felony and misdemeanor charges related to his Christmas Day arrest in Aspen, Colorado. The 44-year-old actor entered his plea through his lawyer at a brief court hearing in Aspen Monday. The court also set a July 21st trial date, although Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, has asked that the case be dropped. Sheen was charged in February with assaulting and threatening Mueller during a family vacation in Aspen. Mueller told police that the "Two and a Half Men" sitcom star pulled a knife on her and threatened to have her killed when she said she would divorce him. Documents indicated that both had been drinking. Sheen could face up to three years behind bars if convicted on the felony charge of menacing and the misdemeanor charges of assault and criminal mischief.

Sheen checked into rehab last month, as a "preventative measure," according to his publicist. Mueller also spent time in rehab, reportedly for substance abuse. Meantime, production on "Two and a Half Men" is expected to resume today. TMZ.com reported last week that Sheen would split his time between work and rehab, reporting back to the treatment facility after each day of shooting.
