A Few Changes Have Begun In The NFL....

As expected, the Washington Redskins fired head coach Jim Zorn on Monday. The move came just one day after the 'Skins finished their season 4-and-12, their worst mark since 1994. Zorn was 12-and-20 in two seasons at the helm. The Washington Redskins moved quickly though in their pursuit of former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan on Monday, flying him in on the same day they fired Jim Zorn. Shanahan landed at Dulles International Airport near Redskins Park in midafternoon and was driven away in a limousine to meet with owner Dan Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen.

MORE COACHING NEWS: The Buffalo Bills opened their offseason with a purge, firing interim coach Perry Fewell and the rest of his staff. Though Fewell was dismissed, he is still a candidate for the team's vacant head-coaching job. Several media outlets, including ESPN and the Buffalo News, reported the Bills have spoken with former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher about the job.

New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin fired defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan after only one season. Sheridan had been promoted from linebackers coach to replace Steve Spagnuolo, who left last offseason to become the coach of the St. Louis Rams.

Also, Lovie Smith will remain the head coach of the Chicago Bears, but he will have a new supporting cast on the sidelines. The team has fired four offensive coaches including offensive coordinator Ron Turner. Sources tells "The Chicago Tribune" the Bears let go Turner, offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton and tight ends coach Rob Boras after several team meetings on Tuesday. Chicago's offense finished 23rd in the NFL in total offense with 310.3 yards per game and 29th in rushing offense. Turner also reportedly had an icy relationship with franchise quarterback Jay Cutler. The coordinator had been with the team for nine years, including five in charge of the offense. The Bears have not announced announced Turner's replacement. On the other side of the ball, the "Tribune" says there's some speculation assistant and former Detroit Lions head coach Rod Marinelli could become the Bears' defensive coordinator.
