Dixie Chicks Maguire, Robison Recording Without Maines

The Dixie Chicks are making a comeback of sorts, but apparently it's as a duo. CMT.com says Martie Maguire and Emily Robison have been working on a new album without singer Natalie Maines. But Natalie's dad Lloyd Maines, who produced the trio's 2002 effort "Home," doesn't seem to think there's any rift between the ladies. He says they all celebrated Christmas together at his home, and notes, quote, "Everybody seemed happy and healthy. And they were back here on New Year's Eve with their families. Everybody had a great time, but, I tell you, during holidays, I don't ask any business questions, and they didn't offer any insight." However he adds, quote, "They're definitely still an entity." But a New York publicist working with the Chicks' management company confirms that Columbia Records is planning to release a new CD from Maguire and Robison only.

The Dixie Chicks have gone through some tumultuous times since their fallout with the country music community several years ago. Back in 2003 the trio caused a stir when Maines made remarks against then-President Bush and the war in Iraq during a Dixie Chicks concert in London. The group faced a strong backlash, and even received death threats during their summer North American tour. The Chicks made a comeback of sorts three years later with the 2006 album "Taking the Long Way," which was their last studio effort. The critically acclaimed CD, featuring the hit "Not Ready To Make Nice," hit number one on the charts and has reached multi-Platinum sales status.
