"Wizard Of Oz" Celebrates 70 Years On Screen
It's been 70 years since Dorothy and Toto crash-landed on a Wicked Witch. The film version of "The Wizard of Oz" even gets a birthday gala but it won't be in Kansas. Warner Brothers is putting on a gala today at the upscale Tavern on the Green in New York's Central Park. The studio is setting up a mock Emerald City complete with a winding Yellow Brick Road. Five of the munchkins from the movie cast will be there, plus Lorna Loft, the daughter of Judy Garland, who played Dorothy. Singer Ashanti will be headlining a musical tribute. The movie was based on the book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," by L. Frank Baum published in 1900.
