"The King's Speech" is drawing applause from the voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The British period drama was named Best Picture at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards for a total of four Oscar wins Sunday night. A favorite to win, "King's Speech" star Colin Firth also made an acceptance speech for Best Actor for his portrayal of the stammering British King George the Sixth. Director Tom Hooper was also a winner, as were the film's screenwriters. "The King's Speech" was the nominee frontrunner heading into Sunday's Awards ceremony with 12 nominations. Other winners included a pregnant Natalie Portman who was a glowing Best Actress winner for "Black Swan." Christian Bale and Melissa Leo picked up Oscars for their supporting roles in "The Fighter," and "Toy Story 3" was named Best Animated Film.
The sci fi dream fantasy "Inception" also picked up four awards, dominating the technical categories for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects and Cinematography. "The Social Network" landed a big win for Aaron Sorkin in the category for Best Adapted Screenplay. The film also won awards for Original Score and Film Editing. James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the star-studded Oscar ceremony at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
