"Reege" To Take Leave For Surgery

Regis Philbin, one of the hardest working men in showbusiness, is going on leave. The 78-year-old Philbin announced this week that he will be taking a leave of absence from his long-running ABC daytime talk show to undergo a hip replacement surgery. Philbin made the announcement Monday on "Live with Regis and Kelly," which is broadcasting from Las Vegas this week. Philbin's surgery is scheduled for December 1st in New York. He did not give a firm date for his return to the show, only saying that he would be back next year. Philbin holds the Guinness world record for having spent the most time hours on camera.
