Regis Philbin To Leave "Live!"

Time is up for the man who holds the record for the most time spent on television. Regis Philbin is calling it a day. Philbin announced his plans to leave his longrunning daytime show "Live! with Regis and Kelly" on Tuesday morning, calling his 28-year run on the program, quote, "the biggest thrill of my life." The 79-year-old show biz vet joked about his age and told viewers that everything must come to an end. Philbin said his final show will be sometime late this summer or in the fall. "Reege" took some time off in late 2009 to recover from hip-replacement surgery. And in May of last year he underwent surgery again to have a blood clot removed from his calf.

"Live!" first aired as "Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee" in 1988. Kelly Ripa then replaced Kathie Lee Gifford in 2001. In 2008, Guinness World Records certified Philbin as the record holder for the most hours logged on television with 16-thousand-100 hours to his credit.
